About this art: When I think of April Showers, two conflicting emotions are evoked - the joyful knowledge that spring is coming, and despondence as the cold, grey, wet days make it feel like spring will never come. Especially in this moment, I wanted to reflect upon how, when the rain comes, we may sometimes feel hope in response, but even when we don't, we must find a way to trust that something good will grow once the rain is done. I designed this pattern to be a single continuous piece of cloth with little windows that can be opened and closed. The windows are held closed by little green yarn buttons, like tiny seeds, invisible beneath the bare soil. However, when the windows are opened, what is coming is revealed - beautiful flowers, brought to life by the very rain that made things seem so bleak. Though I don't feel it is sufficiently crucial to merit going out into the world, someday I would like to make this a nice frame to hold it in place, and to rework the way the windows attach to make it a little less messy.
