What the heck is an 'Art Telephone'?Remember the game "telephone"? If you don't, the premise of the game is a bunch of people sit in a circle, and pass a message person to person, whispered in their ear. By the time the message has been passed through the whole circle, it has usually mutated into something very different from how it started. Art Telephone is the equivalent, but instead of passing whispered words, we're passing art!
For this project, there were 6 groups, or 'telephone lines' of artists. One member of each of these groups was provided with the 'base idea', the unifying idea that would define these first works of art - in this case, 'April Showers'. These artists were given a week to complete their art based on this idea, and when they finished, their art was passed along to the second artist in their telephone line. This second artist then created a new piece of art based on what they were given, without knowing what the original idea was. This continued until the art had passed all the way to the end of the line - and the results have been astonishing! Explore the Home page to see how the art developed different over time through the different telephone lines, and we hope you enjoy! |
