About this art:The five photo series Morning Meditations developed in response to a piece of music titled It Disappears By Morning. Listening to the piece led me into a meditative state similar to that in my dawn meditation practice, the title also inviting considerations of what disappears as day breaks. As light seeped into the sky one morning, mindfulness and noticing what changes around me in the light of day led to this series. Dew drops are like jewels on the ground that are brought in clear nights full of jewels in the sky — the stars. The dawn light gently illuminates the land with subtly shifting tones like the subtle shifts in the flowing music. The sun rises, the wind comes, the mist lifts and blows away, and the dew disappears in the morning. About Cai Quirk: Cai Quirk (they/them or ey/em) is a genderqueer artist whose photography and music often centers around spirituality, mythology, and/or gender. Their ongoing photo series Transcendence weaves these themes together, re-story-ing the lands of spiritual story and myth with ones that center gender diverse identities. Cai is about to publish book of the work and has grants to donate 150 copies to LGBTQ+ libraries and cultural centers around the country. Cai enjoys using art as a form of spiritual practice, such as in the series Morning Meditations, and is excited to partake in further experiments such as ‘art telephone.’
